Project Description:
This is the 7th year we are offering after school dance opportunities within the Monadnock region. This year, we have students working with 3-5 graders through the Access Program at the Winchester Elementary School and students assisting in an adaptive dance class at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center. Next term, we will be adding a middle school program in Winchester and a high school class in Hinsdale. The KSC students use the NH Curriculum Framework for the Arts as their text, building lesson plans based on these standards, team teaching these plans, and assessing each other's performance. The after school programs get volunteer-led dance classes and KSC role models. At the end of the year, all participants and their families are offered tickets to see their teachers dance in An Evening of Dance performance at the Redfern Arts Center. For many, this is the first time coming to a concert at a venue of this stature. KSC students share the choreographic process for modern dance before the concert and then meet with their students after the concert.
